You must be in the wrong Girl Scout council. And I am in the wrong line
of work :-) .
My wife and I watched CBS' _Eye to Eye_ on Thursday night and were
dumbfounded by the report on Girl Scouts and cookie sales. We both dropped
our jaws when the district executive said she got $70,000 & benefits last
year and that wasn't enough. The $90 million budget for their operation is
higher than the proposed budget for the Montgomery County (Va.) schools
($46 million). I'm not sure about what the National office for the Boys
Scouts looks like, but I'm sure it can't compare with cushy space in
downtown New York City. It put a whole new light on those young girls
showing up on our doorstep with their cookie order form. The unfortunate
part of all this is that it will be those young girls who suffer from the
backlash to this report. People who don't want to support the huge GSUSA
bureaucracy won't be saying "no thanks on the cookies" to the overpaid
district executive, but they will be disappointing a young child who
doesn't understand high-power fund raising and political actions.
