}(Mountain Empire District) want to set up a Cub Scout day camp this summer
}and are in need of ideas. I'd like to know things that work well during a
}CS day camp, what the boys enjoy doing, what doesn't work, and all that kind
Are you looking for ideas for Wolves and Bears, or Webelos? I wasn't
able to go to camp with the Wolves and Bears, but I been to Day &
Resident camp with the Webelos. I will pass on some of the things the
Webelos liked.
Whittling - (They can do that at camp for the first time as Webelos.
If they earn the whittling chip.)
Leather projects.
Games of any type. (If you have a hot spell, you will need to limit
their time playing hard and keep them full of water.) They played a
game of trying to keep a beach ball on a parachute (requires team
work), relay games, tag games, volley ball ....
A well run campfire. At resident camp, we had an actual fire at night.
The atmosphere was much better than a pretend fire in the afternoon.
Several boys didn't want to go to the first one. They all wanted to go
to the rest.
We made icecream (a bit hit when it was 105 F in the sun).
They learned knot tying and had knot tying relay.
Bow and arrows, and BB guns were a big hit.
We made den flag. (That takes a little effort to get Webelos
interested in.)
Each year the the camp has a theme. All the council camps use the same
theme. We did pirates one year and knights the year after. There will
be a Star Trek them this coming summer.
