Here is an outline of the Girl Scout Gold Award, fo all of
you who aren't familiar with the award. The Gold Award has
been the highest award a girl can earn since 1980. Prior to
that the highest award was the 1st Class Award. The GSUSA
publishes a booklet on the award called "Girls Scout Gold
Award" if you want more details.

Girls must fulfill 5 requirements:
1) They must earn 4 interest project patches (Ones
started as a Cadette don't count. All the work must be done
as a Senior) For a frame of reference on the amount of work
an interest project patch takes, my daughter's troop
completes 2 a year...one in patrol and one as a troop. She
also manages to complete 1 or 2 a year on her own.
2) They must earn the Career Exploration Pin. To get the
pin, they must read a chapter of the handbook on Dreams to
Reality, write a resume, and complete at least on more
option. a) Plan a Trips and Speaker Project
b) Plan a Careers Fair
c) Carry out a career internship
d) Get a paying job or
e) Start their own business
3) They must earn the Senior GS Leadership Award. Again
there is preparatory reading, then they must serve 30 hours
in two or more leadership postions. The experiences may be
in or outside Girl Scouting.
4) They must earn the Senior Girl Scout Challenge.
There are 5 sections to the Challenge. Each section has
preparatory reading and activities, then a challenge to
complete. The sections are:
I) Developing Your Potential
II) Relating to Others
III) Developing Values for Living
IV) Contributing to Society
V) Helping Others Know About Girl Scouting
5) They must complete a Gold Award Project. The Project
should fit the girls interests, talents, and abilities. It
should serve a community need. The project must take at
least 4 months to complete.

The first 4 requirements can be done in any order, however,
the project cannot be started until the first 4 requirements
are completed.
