Chris,

IN the Great Salt Lake Council, we have a council that is just up the
canyon from Salt Lake. It is not more than 40 minutes drive from more
than 3/4 of the council, so we have cub day camps that are run on a
day basis. You go up there and back on the same day.

This year however the Webelos Camp is expanding its format to an
overnight format as well this year.

We have five Cub Camps set up in the lower half of our council camp
called Tracey Wigwam. They are each based on a theme. We have Casey
Jones (train), Akela's Village (Indian), Sherwood Forest(Medieval,
Robin Hood), Frontier Fort (Western), and Buccaneer's Cove (Pirate).

Each camp has a Scout Professsional in charge and a camp director. The
staff of each camp are scouts who have to be at least 14 years old.
For the camps that offer archery or bb gun shooting, you have an adult
or whatever the requirement is in nationals Health and Safety guide.

The camp generally have a check in, then an opening with the scouts
putting the flag ceremony, skits, and songs. After this the units
either go with a staff member to each of the game areas or follow a
list that tells them which activity to attend when.

The activities are oriented to the theme, such as in Casey Jones, they
learn about train history, do some rail buildings, etc. In Frontier
Fort, they learn about the West (tools, equipment from the period are
displayed). One of the games in Sherwwod Forest is where you stand on
the wooden disk that rocks with a padded stick (In the HOWTO book, I
believe) and points are awarded for touching the other person and
deducted for following off.

At the Webelos Camp in the upper half of the Tracey, there is
swimming and other activities related to the activity badges. Lately
the theme for the Webelos has been Space Camp.

If you want more information I can go into more detail E-mail, as well
as having more time to think out my descriptions.
