Kathie, I don't know what the official BSA stance is on APO, but the APO
National Bylaws still state that the President of the National Council,
BSA, is the Honorary National President of the Fraternity, and that all
Past Presidents of the National Council, BSA, are Honorary Vice Presidents
of the Fraternity (Art. V, Sect. 3); that the President of the National
Council of the BSA and the Chief Scout Executive or their nominees are
Members of the National Board of Directors (Art. VI, Sect. 2); that
there is a National Scouting Relations Committee and that the National
President and Chief Scout Executive of the BSA or their nominees shall
serve on it, and that the duty of the Committee is "to advise the National
Board of Directors on relations between the fraternity and the Boy Scouts
of America and the Girl Scouts of the United States of America; to offer
suggestions to enable the Fraternity to be of service to the Boy Scout
and Girl Scout movements, and to promote interest in Alpha Phi Omega
among the professional and volunteer leaders of the Boy Scouts of America
and the Girl Scouts of the United States of America" (Art. VII, Sect. 9).
*whew*
There's a little appetizer for discussion...:) This is not to say that
the bylaws won't change at the '94 convention--in fact, as many of us
are already aware, there was a movement afoot to dissociate APO from
BSA entirely in '92, and it will probably come up again in '94.
OK, Mike--you're on! (I'm off to lunch...or out to lunch...but most
people say that about me anyway...:)
YiS,
Nathan
