Peter -
Our Pack meeting used to be in the elementary school gym until
this month. The school board has decided to charge any and every
organization for use of any part of the school after hours. There was
usually a meeting somewhere every night of the week, from our monthly
Pack meetings to regular weekly Girl Scout meetings and Cub Scout Den
meetings, to elementary aged sports activities, and community exercise
sessions. This School Board decision was in response to a rash of
"missing materials." This may have been the case, but most halls are
blockaded by floor to ceiling gates. I think the elementary school just
found itself "over-extended" to community support.
We are fortunate to have a Community building - a separate
building containing a gymnasium with a stage, a kitchen and bathrooms -
that was at one time the High School gym (before a new HS was built).
Many organizations use this for different activities. Volunteer and
non-profit organizations get to use it for free. The building has to be
reserved in advance with the HS Business Officer. Maybe your community
has a building available for these purposes.
