Rafting on the Colorado, camping in one of the National Parks like Mesa
Verde where you can hook up with park service programs and tours for little
or no cost, are the first things that come to mind.
Another possibility is a "camp" at a college or university. Many colleges and
universities have summer sports camps, music camps, computer camps, science
camps, math camps, crafts camps. Participants stay in residence halls and
have a ready made program built around their topic area. Some time is usually
reserved for other activities and social events.

I can't imagine why an explorer post wouldn't be a possibility. Most councils
are willing to accommodate most any group.
