"High Adventure" activities for girls

I am involved (in addition to scouts) with a youth group of girls ages
14-18 that would like to plan a special activity/event/camp/happening --
whatever for this summer. They have been in a program where all the girls
go to a girls camp each summer for a week every year. This is fine for the
younger girls (12-14) but begins to get old as the girls get older. They
see the boys in the troop participating in a variety of "high adventure"
activities and we would like to provide something of similiar draw for
them. (They are not in a position to form or join an explorer post.)

I would appreciate suggestions from any who have ideas (and especially
those who work with girls of a similiar age) on activities, trips,
seminars, --- whatever, that have a strong appeal for the girls and value
in terms of personal growth for the particpants.

We must live with some constraints: We need something that can be handled
in a range of $ 300.00 (U.S.) per participant or less. We would like to find
something that does not require more than 850 miles or so of travel from
Las Cruces, NM (just north of El Paso, TX). A summer activity would be
best as scheduling during the school year is almost impossible. Something
on the order of 5 to 14 days duration.

We are especially hoping for ideas that are kind of unique... NOT a copy
or "girl's version" of what the boys do... something that is both
attractive to the girls and also regognizes their strengths and
potential.. so that means it doesn't have to be (and probably shouldn't
be) sterotypical female in nature.

We would be open to a wide range of experience from musical, to
educational, to physical, to sports, crafts, skills, careers, .... you
tell me.

I couldn't think of a better place to ask. Please e-mail responses unless
you have ideas that would benefit the whole group.

T H A N K S I N A D V A N C E !!!! ... 'cause I know this group will
be helpful!
