RE>Scouting IS year round, g
True, it is expensive to setup and run a summer camp. However, as more and
more education costs are being cut schools are having to look at alternative
and more efficient ways to educate our children. One of these options is
year-around school! While we preach year-around scouts many units don't
practice. The council (I know ours does in some way) can help facilitate
year-around programs by offering several camping options. Options such as:
1) Holiday Camp (A three day overnight camping for Cubs/Webelos and their
parents). This
is held during the school break for Christmas Holidays.
2) Weekend Adventures: Three day overnight camps (Friday through Sunday)
for Cubs
Webelos and parents.
3) Weekend Day Camp: While it may not be the same as a full week of camp,
it provides the
camping experience over several weekends! It can be applied at any
time of the year if
lodge settings are available.
I know....not every council has lots of camps designed for year-around
camping, but if we're to keep up with the educational circle of our schools
they may need to reevaluate how its being done now. Just because thats the
way it's always been done, sounds like its time to re-look at who your trying
to reach.....the boys!
In Scouting . . .
