FACT SHEET UPDATED 11/28

Scouting's MAINE JAMBOREE 1994
Naval Air Station, Brunswick * May 20-22

Maine Jamboree 1994 will have activities for Tigers, Cubs, Webelos, Scouts,
Explorers and leaders of all ages . In 1991, the southern Pine Tree Council
in Maine, organized the first Maine Jamboree. Over 13,000 youth
participated.
In 1994, the second Maine Jamboree will be organized by Pine Tree Council
and
the northern Katahdin Area Council. More Scouts are expected here than were
present at more that half the World Jamborees.

Location. The Jamboree will be held at the historic Naval Air Station in
Brunswick, Maine--today a vital maritime patrol aviation base serving our
national defense. The air station was built fifty years ago to train
British
and Canadian flyers at a spot distant from continental Europe. Brunswick
was
the main base with satillite stations in Lewiston, Rockland, Bar Harbor and
even in Casco Bay. Regular submarine patrols were flown from the station.
Today, the base is the home of the Navy's Patrol Wing Five comprised of five
squadrons making regular deployments around the world providing the eyes and
ears of the U.S. Atlantic Fleet.

Program. A variety of activities are being planned for all age groups
including campwide games, Scouting activities, Native American village,
performing groups, an exciting stage show, impressive opening ceremonies and
parade, lots of exhibits, fireworks and more. Guest celebrities will be
visiting Scouts throughout the jamboree. A special gathering of Eagle
Scouts
will bring together those who earned Scouting's top rank since 1910. One of
the exceptional opportunities for camping units is the gateway competition;
units build gateways to their campsites that represent their hometown.

Participation. Scouts will travel from all over Maine, from other states and
from outside the nation. Webelos and Scouts will be able to camp in one of
ten subcamps along the 8,000 ft. runways. Cubs and Tigers will enjoy a
secial
Cub Day on Saturday. Similar aged Girl Scouts and Campfire participants are
also invited to camp or participatein the day programs if they fulfill all
BSA
and parent organization leadersip and travel requirements.

Cost. The fee for each participant will be $5 which includes all actvities,
program booklets, 1994 Maine Jamboree patch, and other recognitions.
Campsite
fee for each camping unit is $12. Units and participants will be
responsible
for their own meals. There will be plenty of concessions stands for those
not
planning to bring food.

Applications. Unit applications will be available at Pine Tree and
Katahdin council service centers by January, 1994. Out-of-council units can
write to Maine Jamboree, Pine Tree Council, BSA, 125 Auburn Street,
Portland,
Maine 04103.

Maine Jamboree provides a dramatic demonstration of Scouting--developing
brotherhood and friendship, providing fun activities, and most of all,
helping
youth to meet the challenges of growing up in today's world. Scouts will
gain
a new understanding of the spirit of Scouting as they gather with fellow
Scouts from all over Maine and beyond. Visitors have an opportunity to see
one of America's largest youth programs on display at its best.

Maine Jamboree--delivering the promise of Scouting.
