Well, we've hit the hot ones lately...bandwidth, gays, god, girls....how
about a new one....Money!
Ok, so all of our units are independantly wealthy and there's no need to fund
raise, but for those of us that aren't here's an idea that were going to do
this holiday season. If you want to use it you'll need to act fast to get a
good location.
I was approached this weekend by Payless Corp. if our Pack would be
interested in doing gift wrapping during the Holiday season at their store.
The one they asked us about was in the Mall so gives us greater exposure. As
part of the deal we man a gift wrap station 5 hours a day (usually between 4
& 9pm), Payless provides table, wrap, tape, etc. Payless advertises it has
gift wrap services (donations only) to help support Cub Scouts. The Pack
gets all donations, plus a donation from Payless of $150. We're running the
gift wrap from the 10th through the 24th. Fortunately for us we have 15 dens
so each den gets one night of work, which is really not much to ask of
parents!
Last year Payless said the non-profit group earned $700 for two weeks worth
of wrapping, not counting the $150 donation!
I don't know how far Payless reaches, but I'm sure there are other general
purpose retail stores (Fred Meyer, Walmart, etc.) that would love to have
gift wrapping. If they do it they have to pay salaries, benefits, etc. as
well as supplies, and they don't get the credit of the donation. This way
they donate the supplies, 150.00, advertising, and location....get a tax
deduction, great goodwill, and save money! What a concept .... A win-win
situation!
Good Luck!
