Re: Co-ed scouting

Here in Italy, there are three possibilities, at the troop age.
- Single Sex Troops
- Mixed Troops
- Parallel Troops
In any case, patrols are always single-sex; and not only for practical
reasons (you can't have boys and girls sleeping in the same patrol
tent, and splitting a patrol on two tents destroys patrol spirit).

A single sex troop favors a good sexual identification of the boy and
the girl, but it is more difficult to have the boys and girls grow
aware of each other's differences.
Two parallel troops have separate lives, but many joint activities.
They usually camp in the same site. They allow for a better
calibration of the moments of meeting and collaboration with the other
sex.
A mixed troop integrates boys and girls in the same community, but
needs to provide some moments separated to help identification with
one's own sex. The Leader's Community must be watchful to assure the
careful application of this formula. Also, we have more stringent
requirements for Leaders in these units. There must be more activities
by patrol, to leave some moments of sexual homogeneity.

At the cub's level, usually we have mixed Packs, unless there are
special circumstances.
At the Rover level there are almost always mixed units.

Ciao!
Gino
