The problem as I see it, is that no one has been able to prove convincingly
just what causes homosexuality. There have been claims that it is genetic,
but none of the studies that link genes to homosexuality are conclusive.
The problem is, if your genes give you a predisposition toward homosexuality
like mine give me towards hypertension and adult diabetes, what causes you
to become homosexual? Is it something in the air, water or other part of the
environment? Could it be influenced by homosexual acquaintenances? At this
point we really don't know. I like to think I have an open mind, BUT as a
parent I tend to be conservative and err on the side of overprotecting my
children. I need someone to convince me with scientific, verifiable facts
just what causes homosexuality. The only openly gay member of my family was
heterosexual until she got hooked on cocaine. Her counselor at the hospital
took advantage of her, seduced her and when she was released took her to live
with her. Now this is only one datapoint and I can't prove cause and effect,
but it appears to me that a heterosexual can change his/her sexual orientation
by exposure to a manipulative homosexual. We need facts, not rhetoric from
either side.
