Re: Training issues

RE: leader training!

I think too many people just look at the training schedules and
think, OH NO, not another day of TRAINING! That 'T' word again.
Time to drink coffee and be bored for a DAY!

Well, a lot of that is changing for those that have not been
Trained, or in my case RE-trained, or additional training etc.
New VIDEO's add a more lively mode to the training, PLUS, there
are new topics, new formats for presentation, and in some cases,
NEW and inthusiastic TRAINERS!

For the most part, I have always view training as a source of
NEW and BETTER INFORMATION on program improvments ETC. POW WOW's
University of scouting etc. There is always a NEW idea to use.
The program is always changing and there are always other people
at the training that seem to have a NEW idea for a new place to
Visit, some new game, a new song, some hot of the press change
in policy etc.

I think Training is the major key to a sucessful program!
I think every adult leader should go to some training, or a POW WOW,
or University of SCOUTING plus at least 8 round tables EVERY year.

I still don't think training will solve all the problems with
the FRIST class in 12 months, such as 12 year old OA members,
but, it can help keep the program moving forward until a solution
is found. BSA does eventually find ways to address most CHALLENGES!
(or problems) BUT, you have to attend regular training to find out
how to apply the changes, or solutions to problems.

Training does not "exite" me, but I find it as the most important
key to a long term sucessful SCOUTING program.

Don Izard,
Scouter, former trainer, and currently being RE-trained ;)
