Greg, you're completely correct, and I wasn't talking about my personal
feelings at all. Living very near San Francisco I have many gay friends and
associates. Safety wasn't the issue at all.
The issue was life style examples and role models. I don't have to flaunt my
sexuality for the youth to see that I have a happy, sound marriage with my
wife. Nor do I have to make any special effort for them to know how I treat
my children. If I'm at the hardware store on Saturday with my wife, holding
hands as we shop, and one of the youth in the Lodge happen to see me, they
know I'm a Scout leader, and can see my relationship with my wife... no
flaunting involved.
If the same youth were to see a leader holding hands with their gay
companion at the hardware store, THAT is the kind of bad example as to
lifestyle that could be conveyed to a Scout.

Perhaps I should have said "is NOT normal" instead of not "right" in the
above... The norm, even here in CA, is for straight relationships.

Again you're right, which is why my kids go to public school rather than
private school. No one is saying hide the gay lifestyle, simply that BSA
does not condone it's leaders being gay. A gay leader condones by BSA would
present the image that BSA thought the gay lifestyle was acceptable as a
role model, and it is NOT acceptable to BSA as a role model.
Remember, I was talking about leaders in BSA, nnot my personal opinion of
gays.
