Mike,
I couldn't agree with you more about what each of us MUST do to
improve the image of Scouting. One of the most depressing things about
being involved with this program is the number of adults who are in
Scouting solely for themselves, or their personal agendas without regard
to the youth.
It is very interesting to me that the new document "Are You
Delivering the Promise?" devotes most of space to a section titled
"The Image of Scouting." One quote from that section: "Remember that
what most influeneces these young people to buy a product is a friend
who has the product. When young men join your troop and DON'T have
a successful experience, they are likely to tell others and discourage
them from trying our program, no matter how attractive we make it."
