Re: Peer Pressure on Scouts

I remember in my girl scout days there was some ridicule doing my
Cadette years. None while in Brownies or Juniors. When I was a
Senior Girl Scout, I was registered with a troop across town since
I was the only one who wanted to continue. I don't remember being
ridiculed then but I don't know how many knew I was still a scout.
This goes along with as everybody is saying around ages 12 to 14 that
this happens. But I was really surprised when my son told me
on the way to our den meeting this pass Monday that a classmate
of his said that scouts is for "geiks". My son told him that scouts
is FUN. We are talking third graders. This particular boy started
out in scouts last year in a wolf den which he quit and then the
den folded at registation time. I ended up taking one of those boys
in my den. At this point, I don't think that being ridiculed would
bother any of the boys in my den at this point. They all are still
at that stage where they love to showoff wearing their uniform.
I hope that both my sons (my other one is a tiger cub) continue
to enjoy scouts when they get older. They both are always admiring
their Dad's scouting achievements which includes an Eagle. My
mother-in-law had recently got them all out an mounted them in a
frame.
