In the northern suburbs of Buffalo NY, I find it very common
that OLDER scouts (13 or older), try not to be very PUBLIC
about being in scouts. In fact, some carry their uniformo
to meetings, and change in the mensroom, rather than risk
being seen in UNIFORM. Some of the scouts will not go on
a trip in TOWN if they have to go in uniform, and again
risk being "seen" in uniform.
I think the kids in school "harrass" them with the image
that scouts are "whimpy little NERDY guys". I wish we could
get more publicity for the HIGH adventure programs, Sea SCOUTS,
and even our local scout that just got some NATIONAL BSA award
for saving a LIFE! (his own fathers, CPR after a heart attack)
