Subject: Adult leadership/Involvement
Jeff,
When my father was my scout master, 25 years ago,
he complained bitterly about the 20-80 rule. 20 percent of
the parents (in those days "fathers") will do 80 percent of
the work. I can still name the 20 percent, (Mr. Hereford,
Mr. Wenig, Mr. Tesmer ((he didn't even have a son)), and
Dad), but I can't remember any of the other parents.
Come to think of it, the 20 percent before them
was Mr. Foster, Mr. Philipini, Mr. ?? (I can picture his
house, but...), and Dad. Actually, the troop ran a fairly
constant 30 boys, so this was closer to 13 percent. Anyway,
the older I get, the more I draw on my father's experience.
