Re: Adult leadership/Involvement

One way to get parents started is on a FAMILY campout. NO SINGLE
scouts allowed. We have also had a Father/son fishing derby weekend,
with any adult over 21 allowed to stand-in for a missing father.
Once we get them into the woods, it seems easy to get them to come
back! In fact we have trouble making sure we have more scouts
than leaders on some camp outs/events. BUT, DO NOT invite the
parents and have them WORK in the kitchen etc., on the very
first camp out! Make sure they have FUN the first time out.
Take pictures and show them HAVING fun at the next court of honor,
or troop dinner! DO not make them think it is WORK! Or that
they will have to cook over an open fire. Cabins also work well
for the first timers.
Don I,
still scouting since '57
