Adult leadership/Involvement

Jeff Menaker 814 862-7494 (JXM181@PSUVM.PSU.EDU)
Tue, 9 Nov 1993 16:27:00 EST

I just got off the phone with my scoutmaster. During this brief
conversation he mentioned that our troop had a trip coming up in
a couple of weeks, and wondered if I could make it home to attend.
But, he also said that this trip was still tentative. He would
cancel it unless, some of the parents volunteered to come along on
the trip and help to fulfill the two deep-leadership problem.
Getting parents involved with the troop has been a big problem
for us for quite a long time (generally the trips just met the
standards with my father, one other father, and the SM on just about
every trip).
I'm sure that this problem is not unique to us, so I was wondering
if those of you who have had this problem in the past who are just
getting over it, have any great ideas on how to encourage parents
to take an active role at troop meetings, on campouts, and other
various activities that a troop normally partakes in?
-thanks
