SCOUTING HISTORY QUESTION
BRUCE C JOHNSON (JOHNSON@MAIL.LOC.GOV)

We are currently in the process of making sure that our list of
District Award of Merit honorees is complete. At last night's meeting
of the District Advancement Committee, the question was raised when did
the award come into being. Can anyone tell me when the District Award
of Merit was started?
Thanks for any help you can provide.

Fred,
I may be wrong, but my feeble memory says that the District
Award of Merit was first offered as an official BSA recognition
in the mid-70s. Many districts had presented it before that, but
BSA produced the plague and knot then. (Hope I'm right.)
