Introduction

Sam Richart (richart@SPK.HP.COM)
Fri, 27 Aug 1993 08:28:23 PDT

Hi Everyone,
My name is Sam Richart and I have been listening in for a few weeks.
There are only a few groups I have associated with that I have experianced
such respect. Buckskin Trail was my first experiance, followed (in time) by
OA, Brownsea staff, one of a few business groups, Brownsea staff, WoodBadge and
did I mention Brownsea staff (can you tell I enjoy a good challenge with
growing scouts). I feel that this group could fit in this catagory.
I have listed to discusions on the Jamboree (I have only visited the
1973 Jamboree at Faragut State Park in Idaho), I will find a way to go with
my son in 1997 or 1999. Right now he is looking forward to his 1st year
Webelos :~) I long for the time to be able to do more scouting, I had to turn
down the opportunity to be on WoodBadge staff just a few months after
recieving by beads :~( (I used to be a BobWhite...)(about tickets and
woodbadge...GO FOR IT!!).
Currently I am the Committee Chair for Pack 18 in Spokane, WA. I am
also a unit commisioner (once was an Assistant District Commisioner(ADC),
ScoutMaster, Troop Committee Chair, Advancement Chair and have been on several
training staff, both boy and adult, cubs and scouts). I have been asked to
resume the position of ADC again this year, and have to ask if I have the time
to give it the time to do it right (see other activities below). Our Pack may
also be looking for leaders for a third Webelos den. I want to do it all,
forget about work and school.
Oh yea, I am a Test Programmer at Hewlett Packard. I am going to
school to get a Computer Science Degree (yea, some Computer merit badge
requirements I can not only understand but have the equipment to Counsel
(You can't just 'teach' a merit badge).
--And I always save the best for last.
My Wife of 14+ years, Cathy, who thought scouting was just an
organization of boys that did good turns until she got to know me (she didn't
know about the adventure part ;~) ) and is just beginning to see why I never
quit scouting thru the growth of our son (she has always been supportive).
My two daughters are 6 and 3, I have been informed that I will also enjoy
Girl Scouting. I don't doubt that!

I want to do a Webelos den. I did it, I want to do it again.
I want to do the ADC. I did it, I want to do it again.
I want to do WoodBadge staff. I haven't done this yet, just wait!
I want to do Cub Leader training (My first experiance with Cub Leader training
was as director of the training).
I want to do Scoutmaster Fundamentals. I did it, I want to do it again. (One
of the leaders I trained was on WoodBadge staff when I finally went
thru, I didn't do WoodBadge soon enough.
I want to do Brownsea. I did it, I want to do it again.
I want to spend all my time with my family. If I did that we couldn't eat, and
couldn't play with my scouting friends.

Peter Pan said it best 'Life, the only Adventure!'
or should that be 'Eagle' Is never, never land near Camp Cowles?
