Alan -
A sad commentary indeed on the fate of Scouting in Berkeley. I do recall
something of the controversy as we were living in Santa Barbara at the time.
I'm glad to hear that things seem to be back on track. The fact that so
many people from so many backgrounds are so passionate about the Scouting
movement should say something to School Boards.
I don't fully agree with BSA about their policy regarding young men who are
discovering they are gay. It seems to me that these young people need the
strong "community" support offered by a well organized youth group. On the
other hand, I sympatize with the difficult position the national organization
found itself in. I can't imagine anyone in an organization so dedicated to
youth as BSA would find it easy to have to exclude young people in such need
of acceptance and understanding.
Thanks for expanding on your original comments,
