Hi everyone
AS I understand it the main issuethat BSA has with a World Moot Mondial is
the consumption of alcohol. I was involved in the Admin committee for the
8th world Moot Mondial in 1990/91, it is was for this reason given but not
offically as to why there will be no US paricipation. Only 4 people came to
the US that year and I do believe there may have been 2 at the 9th World
Moot Mondial at Kandestag Switzerland in 1992.
At the time of the 8th World Moot Sweden did not have Rovers but they sent
one 747 jumbo load of people to the Moot here in Australia, 374 people, all
leaders.
In Australia it is legal to drink at age 18, and thus for control purposes
alcohol was sold on site. This is a far better option then people going off
site and buying booze then bringing back on site.
There are some Rover Scout Crews in the US and they are near the Canadian
Border, but that is the most I know.
The last World Moot Mondial was in Sweden in 1996 and as far as I know it
was a dry Moot.
AS for why the BSA does not support these events I do not understand. I
know it is 18 months away so maybe something can be done between now and
then. Maybe send a later to the World Chief Scout, I do not know who that
person is now but previously it was Neil Westaway and he is very supportive
of Rovers and assisted in the setting up of the 8th World Moot Mondial.
Cheers
Mark
