Sorry-
I got in late, but I notice you are speaking of the BSA 'leaving the
SAR out in the cold'.

Check with your local Air Force/Air National Guard station.

The Civil Air Patrol maintains a SAR role that is VERY active, but very
much unadvertised.

I know that CAP members from our area travel all over the US doing SAR
work, and the local group owns 3 aircraft and maintains them for this very
purpose.

The youth get a lot of Drug Interdiction work in, as well.
