It is my pleasure to announce that Dr. Richards Miller, Chairman of the =
National Outdoor Exploring Committee, has been chosen to receive the =
Order of the Arrow's Distinguished Service Award (DSA) at the National =
Order of the Arrow Conference this August.
The DSA is given to those Arrowmen who have provided exemplary service =
on the sectional, regional, or national level. Since its development in =
1940, only about 550 have received the award.
Doc Miller has been active in the OA all of his life. He served as a =
youth officer in Shenandoah Lodge #258, is a Vigil member of that lodge, =
and received the Founder's Award. Doc was the Adviser of Southeastern =
Region Section Eight (Virginia) and then Southern Region Section Six B =
(Virginia, Tennessee, Kentucky) until 1993. He has served on staff at =
National OA Conferences since the early 1980's and is the Associate Lead =
Adviser of Sports at the 1998 NOAC.
In Exploring, Doc played a key role in the development of the GOLD =
Award, and as Chairman of the Outdoor Committee, has led the development =
of the Ranger Award.
Please join me in congratulating Doc on this outstanding recognition.
