In a message dated 98-06-07 12:41:59 EDT, you write:
<<
1) What are service stars, what do they represent? Can scouts wear them,
or can only adults wear them.
>>The service stars represent years of registration in the various branches of
the BSA. The color of the backing shows the branch, ie: orange for Tiger
Cubs, yellow for Cubs, green for Boy Scouts, red for Explorers, Blue for
leaders, etc. Leaders may wear service stars representing their youth service
as scouts in addition to years as an adult leader, or may lump all the years
of service into blue backed stars.
2) Does the Boys Scouts of America still manufacture the red berets. If
not, does anyone know a place where used berets are still sold? Can
anyone describe the patch in front of the berets.
>>
I was told that the BSA discontinued the red beret because the Guardian Angels
were buying them and cutting off the patch to use the beret for their own
purposes. Don't know if there is any truth to this. I like the beret very
much, and bought one for each of my sons (still Cubs at the time) when it was
announced that they were being discontinued. Look for them at swap meets.
