List--
I have just been informed that much of this list is from outside
of the United States and probably has no clue as to what I'm talking
about when I say American Indian dancing. Well hopefully this
information will help those of you that are from outside the U.S. a
little bit more. My post does American Indian dancing. We make all of
our regalia (clothing, necklaces, chokers, etc.) by hand and dance a
style of dance that is called Old Style. Our regalia is based on the
dress of the Plateau Indians. Our post has several reasons for making
our regalia and dancing.
1. We want to have fun!
2. We want the general public to become aware of some of the culture
that is out and about within the region where we live.
3. We want to provide a different outlook on American Indians and some
of the things that they practiced and still practice.

Our post will put on several differnt dances for whoever wants them.
Often times they are for Cub Scout events and Webelos bridgings (the
crossing over to Boy Scouts from Cub Scouts), but we have done them
for churches and other organizations. It is not at all a regular thing
to see, so many people are fascinated with what we are doing. We meet
quite frequently, usually once a week, to work on new things and to
dance. We make trips to find beads, bells, leather, etc. that we can
use. We often will have workshops where anyone can come and watch us
put together various parts of our regalia. If anyone has any questions
of me, please e-mail me! I am looking forward to hearing some
responses, especially from those of you that have never heard of an
American Indian hobby post. I hope that this clears up some things for
you!
