Hello,
My name is Darryl Ballantyne, and I represent the 5th Markham Venturers.
This year, we are holding our fifth annual JamFest, the largest
Venturer/Rover/Pathfinder/Ranger/Explorer camp in all of Canada, with an
expected attendance of 1,400 people this year. The camp is held at the
Greenwood Conservation Area in Pickering (near Toronto), Ontario, the
weekend of May 22-24. We are hoping to attract more participants this year
from out of province/out of country, and, after some (somewhat) intensive
searching on the Internet, we found you. Here are some details about the
camp :
JamFest, being a camp of huge proportions, is not just like any other camp.
"What is there to do?", you ask? Well, we start off on Friday with "THE
BIG FRIDAY SHOW". This outpouring of talent and entertainment is like
nothing you've ever seen before (and may not want to see again!). Next is
our campfire, which has achieved critical acclaim from all attendants, not
only for the spectacular lighting (an all-new way every year), but also for
being the largest ever seen (last year was about 40 feet high!).
Saturday's events include our regular favorites:
Car Bashing, The Chocolate Pudding Slide, The Impossible Car Rally, The
"Dead Cat" Scavenger Hunt, Iron(wo)man Competition, The Huge Water Fight,
and the all-new "B.P. Challenge" (sure to test your skills, determination,
and teamwork), not to mention others that we haven't mentioned here. Also
on hand are the Tandy Leather Shop, "The Knot Guy", and more. Saturday
night is all about DANCING!! With lights, lasers, special effects, and
LOTS of sound, it is definitely a night to remember (Transportation is
provided). If, after all that, you're still not tired (Hey, can't say we'd
blame ya), our M.A.S.H. tents are open all night to accomodate any and all
insomniacs. Sunday brings closing ceremonies, awards, and yes, tearful
farewells.
Plus, there's more than just all that, such as our couch giveaways (over 75
given out last year), and even more and more and more (we don't want to
spoil all the surprises before you come).
Lastly, since this is a Scouting event, we do believe in CLEAN fun (well,
except for the pudding slide...), and all the regular Scouting rules apply.
The cost, you ask? $18 per person/leader. CANADIAN. (So that's what, $4
U.S.?). DEFINITELY a worthwhile investment.
Being the Commodore and Vice-Commodore (respectively), we are hoping that
you could distribute this information to all groups in the Northeast
Region. (Hey, we've had groups come from alot further away). At any rate,
please distribute this to the appropriate people as much as possible. I
