Mark,
Boy Scouts have rank advancement. They can join a Scout Troop when
they are 10 or so, and they can advance as long as they are youth
(until they turn 18). From lowest to highest, the ranks are:
Scout
Tenderfoot
Second Class
First Class
Star
Life
Eagle
There is a unique honor camper society that Boy Scouts can be elected
for called the Order of the Arrow. One of the requirements for
membership is that the Scout must have attained the rank of First Class.
These ranks are attained by earning certain merit badges, serving in
leadership positions, working on various projects, etc. Eagle, is of
course, the highest rank that a Boy Scout can earn. About 2% of all
Scouts in America reach the rank of Eagle.
