Re: Coast Venture

Oh, yes - the Coast Venture. And I promised a report, didn't
I?

Yes - Our unit contingent consisted of 2 Venturers and 2
Leaders, but I didn't actually spend the nights there as I
have relatives fairly close and I'm a wimp right now!

There were quite a few Venturers there - I don't know exactly
how many. People started rocking up on Friday night, and I'm
told that my 2, along with a neighbouring unit, didn't get
much sleep (and neither did the leaders in the nearby tents!).
Funny how you've got to speak at such high levels in the
middle of the night isn't it? Never mind, revenge is sweet!

From what I saw during my "day visits", there was not a huge
amount of organised activity. There was plenty of fishing (no
real catches), swimming and wandering. Saturday was a
beautiful day - quite warm, with a nice breeze in the
afternoon. Quite dangerous for sunburn though. The Venturers
basically did their own thing - relaxed, bummed around, ate,
swam, fished.....

Late in the afternoon, certain people were feeling tired (for
some reason), and were relaxing in their patrol tent. BUT,
never fear - this was not allowed to be done for long. They
were dragged from their sleeping bags (who knows why you would
be in them during the heat anyway!) and it was made sure that
no eyes were closed. They were asked to accompany one of the
leaders on a walk to the nearby township. After some
reluctance, it was the bribe of icecreams that tempted them
along.

I think then they were allowed to go bed, only to be up for a
while again at about 11pm! Not for long though!

Sunday was a little overcast with some light showers which
progressed into some heavier rain a lunch time. There was
supposed to be an Iron Man/Woman contest on, but I think the
weather was a put off. Besides - most bodies were still
exhausted!

So, it was a lovely weekend, and I think everyone enjoyed
themselves. Just to rub it in - it was lovely and WARM, even
through the rain, and the beach was lovely. The ocean was
even quite bearable!

That's about it!

YIS

Hi Joanne,

Did you go to the coast Venture? If so where was it and what was it like?

Lets make the people in the northern hemisphere jealous of our glorious
summer weather.
