Bill Evans, Associate National Director of Exploring announced the
reinstitution of the Ranger and Silver Awards at the National Scout
Jamboree Explorer gathering in July.
The Ranger Award is being released for "beta" testing to selected units in
the near future. Upon review, and finalization of requirements, it will
be released for all Explorers sometime in mid 1998. It is primarily
designed to feature outdoor/high adventure activities, although any
explorer can qualify for it who meets those requirements.
The Silver Award will be released later in 1998, and will require earning
the Gold and the Ranger Award as prerequisites. No other formal
requirements for the Silver Award have yet been announced.
It is probable that the new Silver Award will be quite similar to the
design which was discontinued in the 1960's although that is not
confirmed.
It is unlikely that a formal announcement of the awards will be made to
local councils until they are ready to be released for general use by
Explorers
Best wishes,

Longs Peak Council Exploring Training Chair
