Hi All
Seeing you all seem to be very quiet I thought I would report on a wee hike
that I have just completed with the Venturers. The Hike is for the
Venturing SKills Award, the first thing that every Venturer should do. It
is also the only badge that I insist that a Venturer does.
At the moment it is a stagger here and a stagger there, with a grown or
two, plus some aching muscles which have been slightly over stretched.
Anyway on with the story, The hike was from Cunningham Gap to Spicers Gap
and onto Lake Moogerah, all west of here (Brisbane, Australia). Cunninghams
gap is 90 minustes away, and we manage to start hiking by 9am. First effort
was to climb Mt Mitchell which we did in a couple of hours and looked over
the plains. Cunningham Gap is at the foot of the Great Dividing Range, and
the lookout vantage point was looking east. The view was slightly smeared
because of the control fires that were in the area. Er then back tracked to
a ridge line where there is no establised track and bush bashed for a couple
of hours or so until we cama across a particular track. This Particular
track was first built by convicts in the 1840's, but there is only one mile
of the track which is recognisable with "whoaboys" and "macadamising". We
went to the Governor Chair Lookout and eventually arriving at Spicers Gap
camp ground at roughly 4 pm. I should point out somewhere, here is as goood
as place as any, that there was 4 Venturers with me, whom I was struggling
to keep up with, pretty normal, I think it might be because I had the
heaviest pack, Oh well some one has to be a hero and today I nominate me
(hehehe grin).
Today, the second day it was all pretty boring walking along rads to Lake
Moogerah where we were eventually collected. Now I just hobble around the
house and make growning noises for a week or so.
Cheers
Mark
