>Sylvester, are you still out there?

Yes, I am. I have just been very quiet. I do read every message on here
very carefully so I can represent you guys <s>! I always snicker when
someone rags on national (especially those "important" or "gold bar"
types)-- little do they know. . . Well, anyway, I hope that your Post is
doing well. I saw several post 72 members at Jambo '97. I'm just chugging
along-- my Exploring and OA schedules keep me fairly busy on the weekends,
and I'm trying to keep an A average as a double major and start an Alpha
Phi Omega chapter.

Okay, about the Ranger and the Silver Award coming out-- I can verify that
there is a possibility that you may see both awards come out before the
turn of the century. Then again, you may not. A pilot program for the
Ranger Award has just started, but to my knowledge, the posts involved have
already been selected. This is, however, just a pilot. The Ranger Award can
be earned by all Explorers, but it was designed by the Outdoor Exploring
Committee, and I believe that it is most appropriate for what I call "high
adventure" Explorers and Explorer Posts that cross over from Boy Scout
Troops. It is not within my authority to say that the awards will
definately be rolled out. If you would like, I can keep you posted on any
official developments as they occur, and what you can do, if anything, if
you are in support of it.

Personally, I think that this is a great thing, and I commend the Oudoor
Explorer Committee for their work. If this becomes a reality, I think that
it will be a big step forward for traditional Exploring, and of course,
link us to our Explorer Scout roots.

Take care, say hi to the Post for me, and good Exploring!

Sylvester Tan

And for some legal stuff-- the reason why I don't send much e-mail--
although I am the Southern Region Representative on the National Explorer
Cabinet, this E-mail does not represent the official views or policies of
the Boy Scouts of America, the Exploring Division, or any of councils or
related agencies.
