I viewed it as an internal squabble within the United Methodist Church over
who did or did not have authority to create the Bibles, raise funds for
them, etc.

As I see the BSA position it is along the lines of "when you guys get your
act together, we'll consider being a part of your program, until then we
will refrain." In other words, I don't think BSA wants to get involved with
the internal politics of the UMC, and certainly doesn't want to alienate the
national governing body.

I don't know if "Where Eagles Soar" has changed any in the last ten years or
so, but the copies I have from when I was last at Philmont are excellent.
In fact, I wish that national would make them available as a supply division
item because they could certainly be of use to units that wished to do
religious services of various sorts on their own outings. To the best of my
knowledge it is not currently available outside of Philmont.
