Depending on the religious beliefs of the family in question, that may
or may not make a difference. In Judaism, the Sabbath and all holy days
begin at sundown, or Friday evening in the case of the Sabbath. That
also means that the Sabbath is over after sundown on Saturday. This may
not be important to all of the Jews in your pack (should you have any),
but it may be important to some.

To get back to the original issue, it is not necessary to arrange all
activities around the needs of one family. But it is also inappropriate
to schedule the major programs in such a manner as to exclude someone.
I would consider the Blue & Gold Dinner, the Pinewood Derby, Arrow of
Light, and pack graduation to be major events which should not be
scheduled in conflict with the religious beliefs of any of the member
families. Certainly there are other conflicts that do arise, but the
religious calendars should be consulted, along with the families, when
drawing up the unit's calendar.

We have an Orthodox Jewish family in our troop. For many outings,
the son simply cannot participate, for religious proscriptions on
travel and other activities. But our Scouts are careful to schedule
some events (Sunday hikes, campouts that begin before sundown on
Friday) that he can partipate in, and he joins in when he can.
