This year we had styrofoam for both the Rain-gutter and Space Derby's.a
We had mixed reviews from the parents, on the one hand, if you used
the wrong paint, you didn't have a model anymore (it melted!). On
the other hand it was very easy to shape with a rough (40-60 grit)
piece of sandpaper. It seemed that there were less parent made models.
You can't use the potatoe peeler to "carve" it like you would with the
balsa wood.
The noise we were/are getting from Council was that it depended on the
supply of Balsa wood.
