Length of Troop Number

At our Troop meeting last night, we were discussing Troop numbers...
Since our council merged w/ 2 other councils, the concern of duplicate
troop numbers was mentioned... Someone said that Nat'l also associates
a number to the troop that is something like 1082 ... where our troop number
is 82... so each troop is unique w/in Nat'l ... True???? or not!
Also - what, if any, is the policy on the length of the troop number.
Some were saying they thought we had a troop w/ 4 digits, yet others were
saying the 4 digit troop numbers are temporary and reserved for Nat'l
level events (ie, Nat'l Jambo's) ...
Thanks- Pat
BTW - I just took on another job (aside from being ASM) ... I am now
the District Boy Scouting Camping Co-ord... Any incite, sugs, or otherwise
helpful hints would be greatly appreciated...
Thanks and YIS... Pat
