Re: Coffee

(no name) ((no email))

A VERY LARGE "THANK YOU!!" to the many LDS and non-LDS Scouters
that have provided me (and I would guess many others here!!) on the
"whys" and "why nots" of caffiene during Scouting events (or any other
time). You all have added greatly to my personal and Scouting education,
and for this my personal thanks!

I especially enjoyed Rex and Branden/Bruce's postings on the background
of why many "Mormon" Scouters choose to drink water in the mornings
instead of my preferred morning (and other times of the day) drink. It's
answers -- and explainations -- like those that give new meaning to the
phrase "sharing information". I've printed both and have placed them in
my "four-pounder" (binder) so that I'll have future reference.

There were several answers to my question about "if not coffee or tea,
then what?". I ask this question partly out of personal embarrassment,
but also because I choose to make any Scouter confortable in any
campsite that I'm at, whether with a Scouting unit or with my family.

So far, the list only has a few items, some of which doesn't sound
inviting:

* water (hot water? Somehow asking a Scouter to "share a cup of
water" with me doesn't sound as "inviting" and "warm")

* juices (again, many juices are MUCH better cold, with the
exception of things like apple cider, which is what I'll try in the
future for my vistors that cannot drink coffee...thanks for the
suggestions!!)

* hot chocolate (and the "jury" is still out on this, because if I
didn't mis-read Rex's posting, there are some Scouters that feel that
the caffiene content in hot cocoa places it on the "no thank you"
list; additionally, chocolate is one of those things that although I
love, that diabetics and some other Scouters cannot partake in)

* POSTUM (to which several here expressed a collective "YUCK!!"
...remember, I want Scouters to COME BACK, not RUN AWAY!!
*hehehehee*)

* non-caffienated soft drinks, like Sprite, Crystal Pepsi and
Coke Free (both which are only available, I understand, in
certain markets...I've seen it when I was in Bowling Green but have
yet to come across either in the stores here in Henderson; again
these are cold drinks and don't lend themselves to "something
warm to start the day up" with)

Any more?

Again, thank you all very much for your responses to my question
and for the discussion....I don't know about anyone else, but I
have really learned several new things here (as I do every day
I'm here!)
