Marc,
First let me admit that my references are old (Out of date to the point of
obsolete if BSA is changing as fast as the Red Cross) but here goes:
1989 Printing of the "BSA Lifeguard Counselor Guide" # 6534A says:
"2. Certification as BSA Lifeguard is Valid for 3 years from the date of
Application." This is on the Application for BSA Lifeguard Certification.
The (your) card should also say something about being good for three years.
I would strongly encourage you, however, to update your CPR training as a
minimum. Red Cross Lifeguarding is good for three years, but only if you
keep your CPR for the Professional Rescuer Current. That training has to
be re-newed EVERY YEAR. American Heart Association CPR training is usually
good for two years, but the level of training that the Red Cross accepts,
is only acceptable for ONE YEAR for something like Lifeguarding.
I would also encourage you to review your material before doing any
lifeguarding. I will be doing some lifeguarding for our Cub Day Camps and
probably our Pimaree and I will be reviewing the material before hand (I
just updated last year with the new Red Cross changes.)
Hope this helps (at least you can point someone to an official document.)
