G'day all,
I dont know how many of you reading here are aware of the senceless killing
that took place in Pt Aruther, Tasmania, Australia last Sunday. I know it
hasnt been mentioned here yet. But if the other Australians on this list are
like me, they may well still be coming to grips with the sencelessness (is
this a word?) of it all. I personally have only come to truley accept that
it has happend in Tasmaina. Tasmaina has of about 1/2 to 3/4 of a million
people. This place is the last place in the world that I would excpect this
sort of thing to happen.
A 29 year old male went on a shooting spree and killed 35 people and is
currently in hospital with injuries that he got while escaping the house
where he killed the last three people.
The age range of these people are from 3 years of age right through to their
70s. Many of the 35 killed where tourists enjoying a Sunday with family and
friends. They came from every state of Australia as well as from New
Zealand, Canada (he was living and working in Canberra) and a American as
well as 2 Malaysians.
I know it is small comfort, but the killer is a live and will eventually be
charged with 35 seperate charges of murder and has already had a court side
hearing for the fisrt of his victims.
It is hard to belive that it may well be one of the worst, if not the worst
case of mass killing of incocent people in a peacefull non war setting.
Unlike the incident recently in Dunblane, Scotland, the guy will be charged
and will be put away for a very long time. Which in my view will not be long
enough.
Yesterday, Australia nation wide came to a minutes pause as well all
rembered the many people who died last Sunday. Many died protecting those
they loved by steping into the firing line and being fatelly wounded by the
very bullets that would have killed their sons, daughters, wives, fathers
and husbands. Flags were flown at half mask all around the city and nation
as we rembered those who lost their lives on Sunday.
All that I ask is that those on the list, if you are attending church this
weekend, please offer a silent prayer for this 35 inoccent victims that lost
thier lives and that may their families and friends find the courage in
themselves to go on.
Sorry for such a gloomy post, however, this is a incident that has affected
many who live in Australia deeply I am sure and I am also sure that the
people on this list would also like to offer their prayers for those who
were the unfortunate victims in this entire mess.
