Well, we have another case for those of you who think that Zero
tolerance rules are good for the kids and schools. Got to:

http://www.azfamily.com/news/newsarch/2000_09_01.html

and look for "Honor Student Suspended for Weapon Possession"

This girl was suspended for holding her mother's purse, while her
mother was caring for a younger child. There was a fishing knife in
the purse. They were at registration.

Also, take a look at these other frightening stories:

What the US Secret Service wants to do about school violence...

Early Warning, Timely Response - a Guide to Safe Schools

OPPORTUNITIES SUSPENDED: THE DEVASTATING CONSEQUENCES OF ZERO
TOLERANCE AND SCHOOL DISCIPLINE POLICIES -
Civil Rights Project, Harvard University
http://www.law.harvard.edu/groups/civilrights/conferences/zero/zt_report2.html

This last one, especially, is scary just by itself.
