I can't really say that I've worried much about it. I would also
recommend trying to wait it out (under a dining fly) before
setting up the tents, although, as Pete pointed out, that isn't
always possible. Also, I too have always rolled my tent and fly
separately (fly outside), and would agree that holding the fly
above you when setting up the tent would probably help.
That being said, I really wouldn't sweat it. Packing a tent wet
is only a problem if it is left that way. If you're just
putting it back up day after day, there's little to no chance
for mold/mildew to set in. Just know that it needs to be set
and dried as soon as possible (I like to hang mine upside down
in the garage) to dry out once you return home. Once it's dry,
the mud becomes dust and is easily dealt with. As far as the
water that gets inside while you're taking it down, I'd just
designate a dirty shirt to dry it out before moving in. Or if
you prefer, Cascade Designs makes a great super-absorbent towel.
The real problem that the wet tent creates while backpacking is
that the water adds weight.
