I like a simple hiking stave and have several. I look for an interesting
shape or species of wood. I sometimes put a wound string grip on it, or stain
it an interesting shade, or add a bottom piece such as a screw or rubber end,
maybe a rawhide strap, or an interesting carving, or perhaps measuring rings.
But beyond that its too heavy and reminds me of the civilization I 'm trying
to leave. The simpler the better and a design through its simplicity is what
I aim for!
