Well, due to a memory failure, I now have to post a correction.
In my "Ruminations" post I told everyone that I had been taught to pause
after "one nation" and before "under god" while repeating the Pledge of
Allegiance. I attributed that knowledge to Sister Dorithy in the fifth
grade. My memory, apparently, wasn't as good as I thought it was.
I had been taught to pause between the phrases, but the person who taught me
that was most likely Ms. Baker in the first grade. I know for a fact, now
that I've thought about it, that Mrs. Bernell was the one who gave the
"seperation of church and state" explanation in the fourth grade. Both of
these were public school teachers.
Sister Dorithy, it turns out, was the one who re-taught me the Pledge and to
say it WITHOUT the pause. My sister pointed out on Sunday that Sr. Dorithy
usually told her students not to pause because "God isn't an afterthought."
