To Scouts-l
This summer's 8 day Michigan International Camporee will probably be the
largest gathering of Scouts from outside of North America in the United
States this year, and, due to recent cancellations, ther are now spaces for
two additional patrols of U.S./Canadian Scouts to participate.
Contingents of Scouts from Australia, Austria, Costa Rica, Denmark, The
Gambia, Ghana, Guatemala, Hungary, Ireland, Isle of Man, Jamaica, Mexico,
Mongolia, Netherlands Antilles, New Zealand, Nigeria, Peru, Slovakia,
Sweden, Uganda, United Kingdom (England), Venezuela, and Zimbabwe, along
with staff members from Austria, Australia, Costa Rica, The Gambia, Ghana,
Ireland, Jordan, Mexico, Netherlands Antilles, Peru, The Philippines,
Slovakia, Switzerland, UK (Scotland), and Uganda, are planning to join Boy
Scouts, Girl Scouts, Venturers, troop leaders, and staff members from the
US and Canada in experiencing a week of camping as international troops and
international patrols from July 30 to August 6 at the Chief Okemos
Council's Northwoods Scout Reservation, northeast of West Branch, Michigan.
A contingent of 8 Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, and/or Venturers and two adult
leaders from your troop, district, or council would be placed into a
camporee troop that also contains approximately 16 Scouts from the Michigan
hosting troop and approximately 16 Scouts from one or more countries from
outside the US and Canada. You would form 4 international patrols of 10
Scouts each. Each of these patrols would contain a buddy pair of Scouts
from your contingent, two buddy pairs from the Michigan hosting troop and
two buddy pairs from the international contingent(s).
The camporee fee, including food, camporee identity items, and craft
supplies for the 8 days of the camporee is $225 for U.S. and Canadian
Scouts and $80 for U.S. and Canadian troop leaders.
There is much more information available at our Michigan International
Camporee home page at http://www.msu.edu/~rasche/scout/micamp.htm (Since
the list of "Anticipated Participants" was last updated on our home page,
the contingent from Kenya has cancelled and been replaced by a contingent
from The Gambia and the contingents from Honduras and Paraguay are looking
very unlikely.)

If you send me an email request at bmccrea@lansing.cc.mi.us, I can send you
camporee information as .a doc attachment. The open spaces are available
on a first come - first served basis. Once we fill the limited number of
spaces we have left, the Michigan International Camporee will be full and
will not accept any additional applications.
