It was a SUGGESTED ceremony, and I don't believe that there there
is any proscription on modifying it. I just checked the ceremony
pamphlet itself, and it does, indeed, say that it must be performed
WITHOUT MODIFICATION. However, it also says, inside the pamphlet,
that this is THE approved callout text, something which is contradicted
by the text on the callout which indicates that this is a "recommended"
ceremony. However, the current literature makes no mention of
this ceremony and clearly indicates that the text of callout
ceremonies is left to the lodge/chapter.
So, maybe a callout explanation is in order. My understanding
(and I was involved at the time, as I am now) was that the author
believed he was writing a ceremony which would become THE callout
ceremony. That never happened and, even by the time it was callout
in demonstrations at NOAC it had become only a suggested ceremony.
It should also be NOAC that to say that the ceremony, as then
written, was not well received would be an understatement. The
reaction during the NOAC was, if I recall correctly, almost universally
negative. The result was that, even NOAC each lodge was given
a copy of the ceremony in their "Focus Box" most lodges that
I am aware of never gave another thought to using this ceremony.
It is, however, still "out there," and I know of nothing that
would preclude a lodge or chapter from either using it as is,
or modifying it to improve it. In fact, I know of at least one
specific attempt to modify it which actually made it a very acceptable
callout. Hopefully, this draft, along with other suggestions
for callout ceremonies, will eventually get released, possibly
callout early as at this year's NOAC. Stay tuned.

As I OA, I believe that nothing was officially done with the
ceremony once it was released.
