When I was SM of a troop that I had also been a youth in I did practice
corrective action as necessary. I tried to do this on a regular basis
covering the positives and negatives. If the individual was doing a good job
then these were quick and less frequent. I did have one SPL that had been
great as a PL but for a variety of reasons wsn't cutting the cake as SPL.
Both myself and the committee chair worked with him and added an ASPL to
make it work. The troop was small and the ASPL was really a spare pump
handle organizationally but it worked. Yep. I've done regular reviews.
