Also, many troops insist on only using troop equipment because if someone
brings daddy's $500 tent and it gets ruined, daddy might expect the troop to
replace it.

In our troop we only allow personal tents to be used by the boys in
backpacking expeditions because the troop tents are far to heavy to pack
(even when split between two boys) and we don't have the financial resources
to keep a second set. The boys like to use the bivy-type, on-person tent, so
if an daddy's expensive tent gets ruined, it will be by Junior only.
